Thermal Dynamics Plasma Cutters

Most Thermal Dynamics plasma cutters, including the Cutmaster series, require a dual voltage input of 120/230V and operate at 50/60 Hz. The amperage draw varies, with the Cutmaster 30+ drawing 31A at 120V and 19A at 230V​, and the Cutmaster 40mm drawing 32A at 400V (3 ph. supply).

The cutting capacity varies by model. For example, the Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 30+ can cut up to 5/8" (16 mm) thick material, while the Cutmaster 40mm has a cutting capacity of 40mm. These are both for hand held plasma cutting. While other models offering mechanised and CNC cutting capabilities can cut up to 70mm using edge-start operation.

Essential safety gear includes a welding helmet with a shade rating of at least 10, OSHA-approved respirators, and welding gloves. As well as flame-resistant clothing, and heat-resistant boots. It's also important to ensure that the workspace is free of flammable materials and that a fire extinguisher is nearby​. For mechanised operation with a plasma cutting table, it is recommended to use an appropriate plasma fume extraction system.

Regular maintenance includes cleaning the torch tip, keeping the air filter and compressor clean, and checking cables for damage. Thermal Dynamics plasma cutters are generally lighter and more portable but may have shorter duty cycles and lower power compared to Hypertherm models. Hypertherm plasma cutters are often praised for their durability, higher power, and longer duty cycles but come at a higher price point. Thermal Dynamics offer a longer warranty period compared to Hypertherm's.

Hand held or manual Thermal Dynamics plasma cutters are manufactured in New Hampshire, USA​. Whereas automated systems and plasma cutters for CNC are made in Italy.

Most hand held plasma cutting machines come with accessories including a plasma torch, power plug adapters, a consumables set, earth lead and clamp, and operating manual. It is also recommended to get appropriate safety equipment such as gloves, glasses, work boots, and appropriate fume extraction protection.
Automated and CNC plasma cutters often just come with the power lead as standard, with additional options like torch, gas control, software etc. to order depending on your requirements and the application.
